The image shown on page 67 in frame 2 really illustrates the intensity of the work that took place in Auschwitz. The frame is very dark, with no bright areas whatsoever, which gives it a very ominous, gloomy tone. Also, the way the mice are all lined up single file carrying the rocks, in my opinion, demonstrates the continuous labor that took place. It seems very unending and difficult. The line and continuous work almost reminds me of a factory line. You can tell the stress that comes from the "black work" because the mice in line are just staring straight down, not even focussing on what is ahead, just where they are walking. Also, the way they are slouching over and their heads are pointed down demonstrate how the rocks are extremely heavy for these mice, who are undernourished and weak. The darkness in the frame, with no brightness showing may represent the loss of hope, because though they keep on walking, there is no end in sight.
