The Fear of the Red Empire
In history class we have learned about the nation of Soviet Russia and the total war waged between it and Fascist Germany between 1941-1945. After near defeat, Russia turned back the tide and pillaged German lands all the way to the river Elbe. Communism was an evil known by many Jews before the war began, and even in their weakened state, many liberated Jews sought to escape to American controlled lands rather than face life under a new Soviet bloc, and 'liberation' under the Soviets was not considered true liberation until one escaped to the American zone of control. Many Jews had had enough time in one Totalitarian state and didn't need a lifetime in another, and the Soviet Empire didn't seem too different than it's defeated Western neighbor.
