War Crimes in the Iraq War

There are many similarities between the Iraq war and WW2. The Nazis treated their prisoners horribly, working them almost to death, exterminating the weak, the old, and the sick, and torturing them. During the war in Iraq rumors surfaced that the U.S. military was torturing suspected terrorists for information. The rumors were later confirmed by photos and testimonies. Former Vice President Dick Cheney defended the actions saying that information was acquired and it helped the war effort. It's amazing that even though Germany's actions during the Holocaust were condemned by the victorious Allied nations and war trials occurred, which America was a large part, we have committed some of the same atrocities and not truly been punished. When I first saw that only the people that committed the acts were tried and not the ones behind the scenes that gave them permission were not I was surprised, but then I realized that unless an outside party is holding the trial the people behind the scenes won't be punished because they can cover up their actions. What we have classified as war crimes have been occurring as long as war has been waged and won't stop until humanity stops waging war, which isn't probable.
