Wiesel's Acceptance Speech

This speech really moved me because it demonstrated the lessons and values he got out of going through the Holocaust. His word choice in expressing his feelings are also convincing and clear-headed. For example, "Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Sometimes we must interfere... Wherever men and women are persecuted... that place must... become the center of the universe... As long as one dissident is in prison, our freedom will not be true. As long as one child is hungry, our life will be filled with anguish and shame. What all these victims need above all is to know that they are not alone... that when their voices are stifled we shall lend them ours..." The passion with which he speaks is shown in the language and has power to convince his audience to agree with his views. After reading this speech, I admire him because he took so much out of his experience to help as much as possible. Another thing I admire about him is his faith toward his own religion and culture, putting Judaism and Israel first. He is a strong minded person that firmly stands up for what he believes in.
